Hollywood star Ian McKellen battled with British comedian Ricky Gervais over the script for his appearance in The Office creator's comedy Extras. McKellen plays himself in an episode of the forthcoming second series of the BBC show, which parodies celebrities and their diva-like behaviour. Writing on his official site, McKellen says he found it difficult to follow the initial script and attempted to rewrite his lines, but has not admitted the final outcome of the scene.
He says: "There are many jokes in this episode of Extras, one of them being that Ian McKellen is gay and also that he is insufferably pompous.
Microsoft is investigating how two internal training videos created by UK comedy duo Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant have surfaced on the internet.
The humorous videos are titled 'The Office Values' and were made three years ago for Microsoft for training purposes. The pair agreed to write and appear in them, on the condition they were never made public. Although Microsoft did confirm their existence in 2004, it refused at the time to release any details.
Ricky Gervais is to make a cameo appearance opposite Robert De Niro in a new fantasy film. He has just recorded a scene as Ferdy The Fence in Stardust, an adventure story based on Neil Gaiman's graphic novel which is due out in cinemas next years. The film was shot in Pinewood Studios, where Gervais has just finished working on the second series Extras - days before the fire that gutted the giant James Bond sound stage there at the weekend.
In his latest video podcast, Gervais said: 'My scene was with Robert De Niro. How could I turn that down?'
